Just One More Time

There's a guy in the Old Testament I really relate to. His name is rather strange; "Habakkuk," but I love what he said to God. "Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O Lord, renew them in our day, in our time make them known." (Habakkuk 3:2)daisy

Habakkuk was living in a time after all the biggie miracles. The Red Sea had already parted; the fallen walls of Jericho were long gone; the miraculous times of conquest and the glorious days of King David and Solomon were history. In fact, Israel was dry spiritually and in rebellion and Habakkuk was called on by God to prophecy about the coming exile.

Habakkuk was asking to see God's great deeds for himself - one more time. Well, I feel the same way. Here we are looking back at the great miracles of Jesus and the phenomenal acts of the first century church. Yes there have always been miracles present to some degree but I'm looking for a mother load of God's great deeds.

Don't we need them just as much as the previous generations? Maybe more, I would say! I'm tired of just hearing about God's fame. Didn't Jesus say; "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." (John 14:12)

Some would say we don't deserve the great deeds of God in our rebellious pagan culture and I would agree. We deserve God's judgment but here again, I like what my friend Habakkuk said to the Lord; "In wrath remember mercy."
